What is it?
Cache Killer Pro is an AppleScript script which deletes the web browser caches for Netscape Navigator, Netscape Communicator, Cyberdog, America Online, Internet Explorer, or any other browser you use! Not only will Cache Killer Pro automatically detect and manage browser caches located in their default locations, but it can be configured to manage any folder on any volume! Cache Killer Pro can be setup to delete the disk caches periodically or every time it is run.

Why would I want to delete the disk caches?
The disk cache files used by Netscape Navigator, Netscape Communicator, Cyberdog, America Online, and Internet Explorer can take up a tremendous amount of disk space! Periodically deleting them will regain this valuable hard drive space. Also, the system's Desktop files wonﾕt have to keep track of the hundreds of individual cache files.
But perhaps most importantly, periodically deleting the cache folder will improve browser stability. With less cache files to internally track, your web browser will require less memory and be less prone to crashes.
What system software do I need?
Cache Killer Pro requires two system extensions ﾑ AppleScript and Finder Scripting Extension ﾑ and five scripting additions ﾑ Current Date, Display Dialog, File Commands, Choose File, and Read/Write Commands.
The complete AppleScript package, which includes all these files, is included with System 7.5. If you are using this version of system software (or later), you should have everything you need!

How do I use it?
When you first launch Cache Killer Pro, you will need to configure it to manage your browser caches. Cache Killer Pro will search for browser cache folders located in their default locations for Netscape Navigator, Netscape Communicator, Cyberdog, America Online, and Internet Explorer. For each that is found, a dialog box will be displayed asking if you want to manage the cache:

Subsequent to searching for cache folders located in their default locations, Cache Killer Pro will ask if there are additional folders you would like to manage:

Utilize this option to manage cache folders that are not located in the default locations. But you donﾕt have to limit yourself to cache folders! You can manage any folder, period! ﾑ such as the Netscape History folder, the Temporary Folder, etc.
After clicking ﾒYesﾓ in the dialog box, you will be presented with another dialog box in which you can highlight the folder to manage and click ﾒChoose.ﾓ

Cache Killer Pro will then ask you to confirm your selection. After doing so, you will be asked if you want to manage additional folders. You can select a total of ten additional folders to manage.
Once you have selected all the folders you wish to manage, select how often you wish to delete the browser caches in days (i.e. the Delete Interval):

Two effective ways to use Cache Killer Pro are:
(1) Set the Delete Interval to zero and then keep Cache Killer Pro in your Apple Menu Items folder. Any time you want to delete the disk caches, select Cache Killer Pro from the Apple menu.
(2) Set the Delete Interval to your preference ﾑ 7 days is the default ﾑ and then keep Cache Killer Pro in your Startup Items folder (or Shutdown Items folder). When your computer starts up (or shuts down), Cache Killer Pro will delete the disk caches if it needs to.
How do I change the Delete Interval?
To change the Delete Interval, you can (1) edit the Cache Killer Pro Prefs file in the Preferences folder or (2) trash the Cache Killer Pro Prefs file. If you throw the file away, Cache Killer Pro will need to be reconfigured the next time it is launched. The Cache Killer Pro Log file, located in the Preferences folder, keeps a log of the tasks Cache Killer Pro performs. To confirm that Cache Killer Pro is doing what you expect, open and view the log file in any text editor (SimpleText, BBEdit, Microsoft Word, etc.).
How much does it cost?
Cache Killer Pro is shareware. You may evaluate it for two weeks, after which you must pay $4.00. Use the Register program to register your copy of Cache Killer Pro. Three days after your registration information is received, you will be sent a registration code. Cache Killer Pro may be freely distributed and copied so long as it is not modified and this and all other documents are included with all distributions. If you wish to include any version of Cache Killer Pro on a CD-ROM or floppy disk collection, you must get permission from the author.
